Active Straight-Leg Raise (ASLR)

Assesses load through the pelvis in supine position.

1. Athlete lifts the nonaffected leg eight inches from the bed and compares the difference in effort experienced when lifting the leg of the affected side

2. The effort can be scored on a scale of 0–5 (Mens et al., 2001)

3. The leg should feel light when lifting it off the plinth; there should be no movement of the pelvis in any direction in relation to the trunk or the legs

4. If this is too difficult or the leg feels heavy, this indicates poor recruitment of both local and global muscles.
